Bombardier Helps the Ukraine Move Fans during the European Football Championship

June 07 , 2012 — Moscow

Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has successfully completed delivery of the first BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 200 solution in the Ukraine, one of the host countries of this year’s European football championship. The project was delivered by Bombardier’s rail signalling engineering joint venture (JV) in Moscow, Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd, for Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ), the Ukrainian railways, to a tight timeline in only six months ahead of the major sporting event which kicks off on June 8, 2012.

The re-signalling took place on the 123 km, seven-station Krasnograd to Lozovaya section of the Ukraine Railway, part of the new high speed Kyiv-Donetsk line linking two of the championship host cities. Bombardier delivered the design, product supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the latest generation BOMBARDIER EBI Lock 950 Release 4 ruggedised computer-based (CBI) interlocking system, which is adapted for severe weather conditions as can be experienced in the Ukraine and serves as an interface with the automatic blocking system. Bombardier also provided 16 level crossings, including the first EBI Gate 2000 system to be delivered in this market. The wayside equipment for the project, such as point machines, signals and the train detection system, was produced in the Ukraine and Russia.

Konstantin Khromushkin, General Director of Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd, said: “This is a very important and significant project for our joint venture as this is the first delivery of modern computer-based technologies to the Ukraine. The tight timescale of the project demonstrates Bombardier’s leadership in the signalling market. This delivery builds on our extensive experience in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and we look forward to further implementation of our innovative solutions and high-tech products in these markets.”

Established in 1996, Bombardier’s JV was the first international JV to be formed for the Russian Railways (Rossiyskie zheleznye dorogi, RZD). Today, with a workforce of more than 150 employees, the company provides services for the whole lifecycle of the EBI Lock 950 CBI system from project design to operation and maintenance. It was the first company certified to deliver the latest generation of advanced signalling equipment adapted to the technical requirements of RZD and its products continue to meet the latest national standards. The company has installed EBI Lock 950 CBI systems at 117 stations in Russia and 70 abroad.

EBI Lock CBI systems provide major enhancements to capacity, flexibility and high availability. Stations can be controlled locally or from any remote control centre, and components can be serviced in the field without disturbing traffic. With the most country-specific adaptations of any CBI system worldwide and over 900 units in operation globally, EBI Lock units can be customised to suit the requirements of different rail administrations and interface with other types of interlocking systems.

Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control Solutions portfolio covers the whole range of BOMBARDIER CITYFLO mass transit solutions, from manual to fully automatic, as well as communication-based systems. It also provides INTERFLO mainline solutions, from conventional to ERTMS Level 2 systems. Bombardier also provides a complete palette of wayside and onboard signalling products.
