Bombardier Transportation (Signal) commissions Post 857 km in Mongolia

December 3, 2013 — Mongolia

Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd commissioned its RCS systems at a Mongolian station Post 857 km. The opening ceremony was attended by Gombosuren Sereenendorj, Head of the Ulaanbaatar railway, heads of the Ulaanbaatar railway departments and services, and press representatives. The technical launch was made on December 2.

During the opening ceremony Gombosuren Sereenendorj, Head of the Ulaanbaatar railway, awarded medals for Contribution to development of Mongolian railways to Bombardier Transportation (Signal) experts who participated in the project.

The contract was signed on May 13 and as early as 6 months later we announced readiness to put the systems into operation. This is the first turnkey project delivered by Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd alone without engaging any subcontractors.

The station has been equipped with 3 point machines, 8 traffic lights, an axel counter system SOL-3 and CBI EBI Lock 950 with a new generation microprocessor R4N designed for operation in extreme weather conditions. The equipment is placed in a modular complex on the territory of the Gobi desert.

Post 857 km is located in the South West of Mongolia between stations Agisumbert and Sainshand. The climate of the Gobi is one of great extremes ranging from –40°C in winter to +50°C in summer, combined with rapid changes of temperature within 24 hours. Temperature fluctuations and severe storms with lightning can pose a serious challenge for the equipment.
