  • Collaboration agreed in the area of cyber security for computer-based rail traffic control systems.

Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has signed a cooperation agreement with Russian Railways (RZD) to develop cyber security for computer-based rail traffic control systems.

As a result of this agreement, both companies will conduct joint work in the analysis and definition of risks and threats. In addition they aim to create the means and procedures to ensure cyber security for computer-based railway traffic control systems. The agreement was signed by Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice President of RZD and Peter Cedervall President Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation.

This strategic partnership is a further significant development for Bombardier and RZD who have already collaborated on a number of projects. These include the creation of a signalling engineering joint venture that has successfully implemented state-of-the-art interlocking systems at over 140 stations, bringing new rail control technologies and innovations to the Russian rail network. In 2010, Bombardier also acquired shares in Russia’s largest signalling equipment manufacturer and a Russian Railways subsidiary, Elteza, which led to the creation of a department dedicated to new technologies and focusing on the manufacture of the latest generation of rail control products for the Russian market.

Peter Cedervall, President, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said, “There is a new degree of mutual trust between our companies. Having a full understanding of the current cyber security problems will allow Bombardier and RZD to develop a more stable environment for modern computer-based rail traffic control systems.”
